Ohana Cafe Dining

For participants who wish to dine in our Ohana Cafe, the first dining is from 10:00 to 11:45am. Activities for the day begin at 10:15am. Lunch is served at 11:00 with the Ohana Cafe closing for sanitizing at 11:45. The second dining is from 12:15 to 2:00pm. Activities for the day begin at 1:15pm. Lunch is served at 12:30. Please call to make a reservation at 798-6420.

Current registered senior participants and new participants age 60+ can also continue with our carryout lunch at the following locations Monday through Friday from 12 noon to 1pm.

  • Senior Resource Center (2222 S. College Rd. Wilmington, NC)
  • Castle Hayne Baptist Church (4544 Parmele Rd., Castle Hayne, NC)
  • Veterans Park Soccer Field Parking Lot (835 Halyburton Memorial Pkwy, Wilmington, NC)

Participants are encouraged to call at least one day prior to reserve a meal pick-up at 910-798-6420. Please provide the date and location of the meal you are requesting. The Senior Resource Center will continue operating the Home Delivered Meals Program for its registered homebound participants.

The New Hanover County Senior Resource Center Nutrition Program is designed to:

  • Promote the health and well-being of older adults
  • Delay adverse health conditions
  • Allow these individuals to remain independent as long as possible

The on-site Nutritionist will provide counseling to any New Hanover County Senior.  Nutrition education programs are offered at the Center on:

  • General nutrition
  • Food resource management
  • Disease maintenance and prevention
  • Food safety and preparation
  • Healthy lifestyle
  • Physical activity

Referrals are made to other local providers for health promotion services not offered at the Center.

Home-bound elderly citizens age 60 and over receive a lunch Monday through Friday, prepared at the Center Nutrition site by a local catering company.

  • A resident of New Hanover County
  • 60 years of age or older
  • Homebound – unable to leave home unassisted
  • Living alone and unable to have nutrition needs met by family, friends, or others
  • Unable to cook and/or shop – due to ill health; lack of food preparation facilities (stove or refrigerator); or inability to meet special dietary needs

All potential program participants need to complete a telephone screening assessment to determine eligibility. A social worker will make a home visit to complete the assessment and enroll the participant into the program, if participant meets eligibility requirements. At least every six months, participants are reassessed to determine their continued eligibility and to insure their needs continue to be appropriately met.

Meals on Wheels AmericaMenus from state guidelines provide 1/3 of daily food requirements. Meals on Wheels, Inc. a non-profit organization, works closely with the Senior Resource Center and provides meals to home-bound individuals on the weekends.

Individuals attending the nutrition sites have access to socialization with a lunch meal and activities. We offer Seated Exercise, Bingo, wellness discussions and educational programs.
