Geri Fit – Info on Wilmington and Castle Hayne Sites

Every 1st, 3rd, and 5th Monday of the month, we have a 45 minute Geri-Fit class from 9:30am to 10:15am. The location is Castle Hayne Baptist Church Nutrition Site, 4544 Parmele Road (at the intersection of North College Road & Parmele Road, Castle Hayne).

Geri Fit is an exercise class for men and women age 60 and older. A typical Geri-Fit class consists of a brief aerobic warmup, muscle stretches, balance improvement exercises, hand weights to maintain strong muscles, deep breathing practice, and breaks for hydration.

The class is provided at no charge to seniors 60 years of age and older. Monetary contributions (in any amount) are always welcome and appreciated.  Contributions go directly to support Title III-D Evidence Based Health Promotion (EBHP) programs including Geri-Fit, A Matter of Balance (AMOB), and Tai Chi for Arthritis (TCA).

Join us on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Monday at 9:30am.  Please plan to stay for other activities, programs, services, and a healthy, nutritious lunch served at 11:30am.  Lunch is provided at no charge to seniors at least 60 years of age.  Contributions are always welcome and encouraged. There is a $5.00 fee for individuals under the age of 60 to eat lunch.

GeriFit® is a Title III-D Evidence Based Health Promotion (EBHP) group strength training exercise and fall prevention program.

  • During this 45-minute class, you’ll improve functional capacity, balance, flexibility, and strength.
  • Works at rebuilding strength that has been lost through the aging process.
  • No high energy aerobics, dancing, or choreography to learn and there is NO floor work.
  • Each person is encouraged to work out at his/her own pace.
  • Some of the exercises can be performed seated in chairs.


The following classes in Geri-Fit are available at the Wilmington site on South College Road:

Monday in the Multi-Purpose Room (MPR)    8:30am-9:15am   

Tuesday in the Physical Fitness Room (PFR)  8:00am – 8:45am     

Wednesday in the Multipurpose Room  12 noon – 12:45pm

Thursday evening in the Physical Fitness Room (PFR)  5:45pm-6:30pm

Friday in the Multipurpose Room (MPR)  12 noon – 12:45pm


Please bring your own water bottles to the class. NOTE: When the Multipurpose Room is being used, we hold classes at Pine Valley United Methodist church, less than 2 miles away on Shipyard Boulevard. Mary will let you know in advance when these dates will be.
