Join the NHC Office of Diversity and Equity as we kick-off a year long series entitled “Changemakers”. Each session will feature a panel discussion around local individuals and their amazing stories of overcoming challenges, helping change lives and our community. 

Episode 3

June Changemakers:

New Hanover County is filled with committed healthcare professionals. Joins us this month for our next Changemakers as we meet three outstanding professionals who have committed their lives to making incredible strides in our community in the field of health.

Episode 2

In celebration of International Women's Month we have convened a phenomenal panel of women who have positively impacted the lives of people in New Hanover County. They are all Changemakers in our community. The panel discussion is facilitated by Sheila Evans, Chairperson, NHC Commission for Women.

Episode 1

The first session features Cape Fear Museum historian, Jan Davidson and six local residents who will help us explore the history of race relations in NHC and their personal stories.

  • Ronald Sparks & Charles Boney, Jr. - two men navigate friendship through a violent season of school integration 
  • Brian Jones & James Jones - a father and son navigate the challenges of race and parenting in the South
  • Francine DeCoursey & Stacy Smith Gause - a Big Buddy advocate, mentors a set of twins living in Wilmington’s Inner-city and learns to navigate discrimination and cultural differences for more than 37 years.
